The bond between mothers and daughters is one of the most cherished and complex relationships within families. It has the potential to be deeply supportive and nourishing, yet there are times when it can feel challenging and blocked. This workshop is dedicated to exploring and enhancing the connection between mothers and daughters, fostering trust, understanding, and mutual appreciation.

Workshop Objectives

Our goal is to create a safe and nurturing space where mothers and daughters can:

  • Develop deeper mutual understanding and trust.
  • Learn effective communication skills.
  • Honor their unique identities while embracing their shared heritage.
  • Support each other through life’s transitions and challenges.

 

Topics to be Explored

  1. Storytelling: The Female Experience in a Patriarchal Society
    • Explore personal and shared stories about what it means to be a woman.
    • Discuss historical and cultural narratives and their impact on mother-daughter relationships.
  2. Active Listening with the Whole Body
    • Practice techniques to enhance active listening.
    • Noticing and making space for the inner critic.
    • Co-creating a common language that fosters clear and compassionate communication.
  3. Honoring Tradition and Embracing Change
    • Learn how to respect and celebrate family traditions while making space for new ideas and practices.
    • Balance the wisdom of the past with the opportunities of the present and future.
  4. Navigating Conflict and Embracing Disagreement
    • Learn healthy ways to express differing opinions and manage conflicts.
    • Understand the importance of allowing space for disagreement.
  5. Unpacking Judgement, Blame, and Shame
    • Discuss how judgement, blame, and shame show up the mother-daughter dynamic.
    • Explore ways to soften the charge that comes with feeling shame and blame
  6. Supporting Each Other
    • Understand and appreciate each other’s experiences and perspectives.
    • Identify each other’s strengths and how to draw upon them during challenging times.

 

Workshop Format

The workshop will combine interactive discussions, practical exercises, and reflective activities. Participants will have opportunities to share their experiences, practice new skills, and engage in meaningful dialogue with each other.

 

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for mothers and daughters who wish to deepen their relationship, improve communication, and support each other’s growth. We encourage daughters aged 20 and over to join. At this time the workshop is only open to Sudanese mothers and daughters. 

 

Location and Price

The workshops will be held in person, with the exact location to be disclosed closer to the date. The cost for the entire workshop series is £150 per person, which includes six sessions, each 90 minutes long. Sessions will be held every fortnight, providing ample time for reflection and practice between meetings.

Mothers and daughters who wish to work together are encouraged to apply together. If they apply together, the cost of the workshop for both is £285.
